Fair Housing
Sexual Harrassment Prohibited

It is illegal for a landlord or any of his or her employees to ask or require sexual favors in exchange for:

  • the rental of an apartment;
  • lease renewal;
  • repairs;
  • or any other condition or privilege of renting.

Be on the lookout if your landlord enters your apartment and makes sexually offensive comments or tries to touch you.

Call the Housing Research and Advocacy Center  at 361-9240 if you are told:
  • "I helped you get into this apartment. If you don't see me, I can take your voucher away and put you on the streets."
  • "If you are nice to me, I will make the repairs to your apartment."
  • "If you sleep with me, we won't have to worry about your late rent."
  • "There is a long waiting list here, but I'm sure you can jump ahead in line if you're nice to me."

Even if you have already engaged in sexual activity to pay your rent or security deposit or to get repairs done, you may still be a victim of sexual harassment if you decide that enough is enough. It starts with YOU. Call today.
